In the 1960s, Dr. James Maas, professor of psychology at Cornell University, arranged to have a series of educational films produced for undergraduate psychology students. When Dr. Maas saw William Kurelek’s painting The Maze while visiting London, England, he knew it was an ideal subject for a film. The Maze: The Story of William Kurelek, a thirty-minute documentary by filmmaker Robert Young, was completed in 1970. Forty years later, this film is being reissued as William Kurelek’s The Maze in an expanded and re-mastered form. View the trailer and catch the film’s premier in October 2011 at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
